Cyclone Nisarga causes landfall in Alibagh, heading towards Mumbai

The Tropical storm Nisarga has intensified into a “severe cyclonic storm” and has caused landfall along the Maharashtra coast on Wednesday afternoon. The landfall was caused around 1 pm at the south of Alibag.

The cyclone is expected to enter the region of Mumbai and Thane by afternoon 3 pm. It is going to cause heavy rainfall and winds. The director of IMD General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that the wind speed could be about 80 km per hour to 90 km per hour over Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Palghar areas. He also said that the cyclone will dissipate by midnight and tomorrow morning. The head of the national weather forecasting center, Sunita Devi said,

“Even though landfall site is south of Alibag, extensive damage can be expected in Raigad, Mumbai, Thane and neighboring areas.”
