Social Media Power: Health Ministry To Make Jyoti Kumari Who Cycled Her Father As The Health Ambassador

Jyoti Kumari, the 15-year-old girl who cycled her way for 1200 kilometers carrying her injured father from Delhi to their native place Darbhanga has been showered praise for her agility and strength.

A day after the Ivanka Trump, the daughter of the United States President Donald Trump, put out a tweet to celebrate Jyoti’s painfully stressed journey to reach their native amidst the lack of transport facility during the lockdown, the Health Ministry is now considering to make Jyoti the health ambassador of India.

A report in Times of India said that Jyoti’s name was removed from the government middle school after she failed to attend the classes. A day later, Darbhanga district administration clarified on Saturday that Jyoti’s name was added to Class IX at a plus-two high school at Pindaruchh under the Singhwara block in the same district. The district administration also released a statement that she has given books, copies, dress, shoes, and cycle under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan.

Cycling Federation Invites Jyoti for Training

The Cycling Federation of India (CFI) invited Jyoti for a trial training at the National Cycling Academy in New Delhi. However, Jyoti declined it saying she would not be able to attend at least for the next two months. She said,

“I want to resume my studies first and get everything settled in the family as my father has also come back here and we will have to sort out livelihood means for the entire family. I was told that I will get a call from CFI next month and I will tell them that I need a couple of months to be mentally and physically ready for the trial.”

On asked about her reaction for the Ivanka Trump’s tweet, she said,

“A neighbor showed me Ivanka’s tweet on a smartphone. I am very happy and would definitely like to meet her someday.”

Ashwini Kumar Choubey, the Member of Parliament from Buxar and a Union Minister heaped praise of Jyoti by saying,

“The courage and determination showed by Jyoti in adverse conditions are exemplary. The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry will consider making Jyoti its brand ambassador in order to promote such youth and spread the message of the importance of courage and fitness.”
