President Ram Nath Kovind, on Saturday, put out a statement applauding PM Narendra Modi for his efforts to combat the COVID-19 crisis in the country. In the same address, the President also addressed the need to control pollution in the country. Following this, the hashtag #PopulationControlLaw has started trending on Twitter.

The President of the world’s second-largest populated nation said: “Large and densely populated countries such as India have to take deliberate steps, especially on the subject of population control. Otherwise, such disasters can have severe consequences in our country.“

BJP Spokesperson asks nation to trend the hashtag
Following the President’s comments, BJP Spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay asked the Twitter users to trend #PopulationControlLaw and speak about the problems regarding population explosion in the country.

Ashwini Upadhyay also provided a few stats to back his statement. He said that while the area of the USA is 95,25,067 sq km and children born per day are 10,247, in China, the area is 95,96,960 sq km and the children born per day are 46,299. However, in India, the area is 32,87,263 sq km and the children born per day are 67,385. Upadhyay stressed on the requirement of a Population Control Law in the country.He also claimed that: “It is impossible for any country to create two and a half million new jobs every year.”
