In an incident that is sure to put up an example for many across the country, Muslim neighbors ensured the final rites of a Hindu woman. The incident happened in Ahmedabad of Gujarat state.
The woman used to stay all alone
A 75-year-old woman, Mandakini Tripathi used to stay alone at her flat in the Usha Kiran Building of Khanpur in Ahmedabad. On the day, she accidentally fell down in her house and died a couple of hours later.
The neighbors got in touch with a nephew of the lady, who stays in the US. From the nephew, they got the information that two of the woman’s relatives stay in Ahmedabad. Using their help, the Muslim neighbors completed the final rites of the woman.
An event of inter-community friendship
Here is what Sahal Qureshi, one of the neighbors had to say:
“I got a call from Naseeruddin Ajmeri and Johar Tarwala, stay in the same building, informing that a senior citizen in their building had collapsed in her house. All the building residents rushed to her house, but she did not survive.“
He later got in touch with the woman’s nephew in the US, who gave the telephone numbers of the relatives in the city. The neighbors then got to contact them.
Another neighbor Hakeem Yaasir said: “Muslims of the building and neighboring buildings themselves went to the crematorium to see through the final rites of Mandakini. None of us could hold back our tears, as her relatives held our hands and thanked us for making arrangements for her final rites.”
He added: “This is the true character of India. This proves we are all united.“
Well, this indeed is a fine example of the true character of India.
