In welcome news coming from the coastal region of Karnataka, a 10-month-old baby who had contracted the novel coronavirus last month has been recovered and is said to be ‘perfectly fine’ to discharge.
On Saturday, in the evening bulletin of the Karnataka Health Department regarding the COVID-19 crisis, it was reported that 6 people have recovered which includes a 10-month-old baby from Mangaluru. The baby hailing from Bantwala Taluk of the Dakshina Kannada region had tested positive for the coronavirus on the 26th of March. As per the health ministry, the baby had no history of travel or neither any trace of contact. The baby was tested positive along with its mother and grandmother. While the test results of both of them are awaited.
The Baby tested negative Twice
According to the Health Ministry’s bulletin of March 27, the baby along with the mother and the grandmother had traveled to Kerala. On March 23rd, the baby was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru following severe fever and Respiratory illness. The ministry is yet to identify where the baby was contracted.
A Ramachandra, Dakshina Kannada District Health Officer, spoke to News 18 and said that the baby has been recovered successfully after the second test came out as negative. He also said that throughout the treatment, the baby was perfectly responding to the protocols. In a total of 12 cases reported in Dakshina Kannada, 6 of them have already been discharged. With this, Karnataka has a total of 39 patients who have recovered successfully leaving the state with 170 active cases. Karnataka is one of the few states that has a mortality rate of less than that of the world with 2.9 percent.
Similarly, a 10-month-old baby in Tamil Nadu too recovered from the COVID-19 disease. The baby was tested positive on the 29th of March. The contraction came from the baby’s mother who is a doctor. Along with the baby, the grandmother and house help too were infected. The baby was tested negative twice on the 6th of April and was later discharged.
With two cases of infants recovering and an old aged couple recovering in Kerala, there seems to be hope among patients of the age group who are said to be the most vulnerable age group.
