NCP chief Sharad Pawar has questioned as to who had permitted the Tablighi Jamaat conference to be held in the Nizamuddin area of Delhi. In a live Facebook video, Sharad Pawar also revealed that two similar incidents were stopped in Maharashtra.
Tablighi Jamaat incident has become a headache for the authorities
With 400 positive COVID-19 cases and 19 deaths linked to the event, the Tablighi conference has turned into a big obstacle for the concerned authorities.
At least 9000 people had participated in the event and later, these people traveled to different parts of the country. In the headquarters itself, around 2300 activists, including 250 foreigners were found living. Action has been taken against all of them.
Similar incidents were stopped in Maharashtra
Sharad Pawar said that two large gatherings were proposed in Mumbai and Solapur too. While the Mumbai idea was dropped immediately, police took stern action against the Solapur gathering for violating social-distancing norms.
Hence, the NCP chief questioned as to why the permission was given to the Tablighi conference. He said:
“If Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray can take such a decision, why the permission was not denied for a similar congregation in Delhi and who approved it?”Â
Pawar also criticized media over blowing up the incident
Sharad Pawar opined that media should not have blown up the incident beyond its proportion. He said: “Why was it so necessary for the media to hype it? It unnecessarily targets one community in the country.“
