Ever since the Indian Parliament has scrapped Article 370 there have been a lot of ongoing debates and discussions with the opposition members thrashing the ruling party for not taking them into confidence. But the former prime minister of India, Manmohan Singh, who is also a well-known economist was until now quite silent and had not uttered a single word.
But he spoke for the first time on the sidelines of a Memorial Meet for former Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy.
Manmohan Believes India Going Through Deep Crisis
While expressing his concern over the Jammu and Kashmir issue, Dr. Singh said, “India is passing through a deep crisis and it requires the cooperation of all right-thinking people to challenge the dark forces.” According to him, it is essential to raise your voice so that the idea of India prevails for a long time. The former Indian PM also added that it is also equally important that all voices are heard.
Dr. Singh further added, “The outcome of this is not to the liking of many people of our country. It’s important that the voices of all these people are heard. It’s only by raising our voice that we can assure in the long run idea of India, that is something which is very sacred to us and that must prevail.”
Former Union Ministers Mani Shankar Aiyar and Subodh Kant Sahay also joined the former PM at the event. Apart from the CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and his counterpart D Raja no other senior leader was present at the event.
Manmohan Singh To File For Rajya Sabha
Dr.Manmohan Singh’s name has been cleared by the Congress party as a candidate for the by-poll to the Upper House of Parliament from the state of Rajasthan. The veteran Congress leader is expected to reach Jaipur and file his nomination for the upcoming election for Rajya Sabha on August 13.
Dr. Singh has been a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha for Congress for almost three decades but until now he represented Assam. After the death of BJP state president Madan Lal Saini, the seat for Upper House from Rajasthan has remained vacant.
