The loyal soldier of BJP, Sushma Swaraj who breathed her last on Tuesday evening was a powerful orator and External affairs minister who was easily accessible to everyone who thought of reaching out to her.

She was attached to the party principles and ideologies of Jana Sangha and RSS, and many times went out of the way of all the obstacles to help the needy. It greatly speaks of how important serving humanity was to Swaraj.

Granted Visa To An Ailing Pakistani Girl

The former foreign minister Sushma Swaraj in 2017 had an unusual request from Iqbal from Lahore, Pakistan, requesting for a year-long visa for his cousin Shireen Shiraz. In his tweet to Swaraj, Iqbal said,  “After ALLAH you are our last hope. kindly allow Islamabad embassy (Indian High Commission) to issue us medical visa.”

Understanding the gravity of the entire situation, Sushmaji responded immediately on social media saying, “India will not belie your hope. We will issue the visa immediately.” Thus, the Indian High Commission in Islamabad granted a medical visa for the liver transplant of his cousin the same year.

‘Raahat Execution’ Reflects Her Dynamic Statesmanship

Her true leadership and caring attitude once again were highlighted when the External Affairs Minister rescued not only Indians but also foreign nationals, every time whenever there was a request. Around 5000 Indians were brought back to the country from Yemen under her able supervision. Under the operation named Raahat, she arranged for the return of at least 1000 foreign nationals.

She also played a key role in bringing back Malayalee nurses held captive in Iraq by the ISIS insurgents. The diplomatic efforts of Sushma Swaraj as the foreign minister helped India to pull off such a crucial rescue operation successfully. Swaraj is also credited for resolving the prickly Doklam standoff between China and India.
