Team India is going to take down England on 30th June in Birmingham and it looks the men in blue will turn themselves into the men in orange. Kohli and Co. will debut its first-ever Away Kit in the match against the host. This design is taken from India’s old T20 jersey which had orange in it. Ever since the announcement of this jersey took place, there has been a lot of controversy regarding the choice of the color. Some political leaders in the country have termed it as growing saffronisation in the country.
Bleed Orange
Before the World Cup started, ICC had introduced a new rule asking the teams sport home and away jerseys in the tournament. However, the Indian team might not be seen in their trademark color jersey. The side will sport orange color in the upcoming match against England in Birmingham on Sunday. The whole idea is to be different from blue as England also wears the same shade of color as India.
After this news went viral on social media, the Congress party and Samajwadi party politicians said that the government was behind this and also said that the jersey was part of growing saffronisation in the country.
Controversy For the color of Jersey
Congress MLA Naseen Khan said, “Ever since the Modi government has come to power, it has been playing saffron politics. The Tricolour should be respected and national harmony should be promoted. This government wants to saffronize everything.”
Abu Asim Azmi, SP MLA in Maharashtra Assembly also said, “Modi Ji wants to saffronize the entire country. A Muslim was the one who designed the Indian Tricolour. There are other colors in the Tricolour, why choose only orange? It will be better if their jersey is based on the Tricolour.” Source
Team’s Reaction
Amid the controversy, the Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun said that their focus is not on the color and they have come here to win games.
“To be very frank we are not told about what colors we are going to be wear, we haven’t given any thought and are focusing on the game and not aware of the color we are getting. We bleed blue and blue is going to be predominantly the color that is it,” Arun said during a pre-match press conference here on Wednesday. Source
