Prime Minister Narendra Modi known for his discipline and working almost 16 hours a day has now set up the same standard of work for his council of ministers. Recently he asked all his ministers to try to reach the office by 9.30 am and avoid working from home. Modi, who did not take a single leave during his first term as Prime Minister wants his ministers to be punctual and prompt with work.
The PM has also asked the Union Ministers not to plan any outside visits during the initial 40 days of Parliament’s session.
Modi Cites His Own Example As Gujarat CM
While chairing the first meeting of Council of Ministers in his second term, Modi gave his own example when he was the CM of Gujarat. The PM said in those days he used to reach the office early so by the time the officers were in he could easily set the tasks for the day. The prime minister also asked the senior ministers to hand-hold the new incumbents.
According to Modi, the ministers of state should be given more role by the cabinet ministers by sharing important files with them so that the productivity can be increased. To ensure that faster approval on files is made possible, Narendra Modi opined that both the cabinet ministers and their juniors should sit together and clear proposals. Â
He also said that apart from reaching office in time, the ministers must discuss the latest developments with the officials in the ministry for a few minutes. Narendra Modi also asked the ministers to come to the office regularly.
Cabinet Ministers Should Regularly Meet Party MPs And General Public
The Prime Minister also asked the cabinet ministers to keep on meeting party MPs as well as the general public on a regular basis. They can start by meeting different parliamentarians from their states, said Modi. According to him, there is not much difference between an MP and a minister.
While discussing the five-year agenda of every ministry the PM said that the ministers need to take an impactful decision in the first 100 days of the government. Â
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation made by the Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar on optimal utilization of the Parliament session. Tomar was the parliamentary affairs minister in the earlier Modi government. Â
Other ministers who also made presentations related to their respective ministries include Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Railway minister Piyush Goyal. Sitharaman invited inputs through her presentation for the Union Budget which will be presented on July 5. Â
