A voter turnout of 61.81% was recorded in the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls 2019. This particular phase was the biggest of the seven phases as Indians voted for a maximum of 117 seats in 15 states and two Union Territories of the country.
Prominent Candidates’ Fate To Be Decided
The fate of some of the prominent candidates standing in this year’s Lok Sabha elections 2019 such as the BJP President Amit Shah, Chief of Congress Party Rahul Gandhi, actor-turned Jaya Prada, Leader of Opposition Maillikarjun Karge, BJP leader Sambit Patra, and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor were sealed in the third phase voting.
All of the seats in Gujarat (26) and Kerala (20) went to polls on April 23 and witnessed a voter turnout of 59.01% and 69.41% respectively by 6 pm. In Maharashtra, a voter turnout of 55.95% was witnessed for 14 seats. In Karnataka as well 14 seats went into the poll and until 6 pm a voter turnout of 61.39% was recorded.
In Uttar Pradesh, a voter turnout of 56.57% was recorded for 10 seats whereas a polling percentage of 64.68% was recorded in Chhattisgarh. The voter turnout in West Bengal for 5 seats was 78.99% and in Bihar, it was 55.19% for 5 seats.
In Orissa, a polling percentage of 58.18% was recorded for 6 seats whereas, in Assam, the turnout was 74.05% for 4 seats, and in Goa, the voter turnout was 70.97% for 2 seats.
The voter turnout in Tripura, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Havelli, and Jammu and Kashmir for 1 seat each was 78.37%, 65.34%, 71.43%, and 12.86% respectively.
Numerous Complaints Of Malfunctioning EVMs
Even as the polling percentage seemed to be encouraging enough in most of the states during the third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019, several complaints regarding the malfunctioning electronic voting machines (EVMs) continued to haunt the smooth functioning of polling.
Most of the complaints registered were from Kerala, Assam, and Goa. In another shocking turnout, two senior citizens who had come for voting passed away in Kannur, Kerala polling booth.
In yet another stunner, a Congress worker was stabbed to death outside Mushidabad polling booth in a tiff with TMC members. Apart from these two incidences, voting in other parts was peacefully conducted.
All Of Southern India Completes Voting
In the third phase of Lok Sabha polling 2019, 55% of the entire country and all of Southern India completed voting. The first phase began on April 11 with 68% polling percentage for 91 constituencies. In the second phase held on April 18, 67% voting was recorded across a Union Territory and 11 states in 95 constituencies.
