Dr. K Padmarajan is the most unsuccessful candidate from India. Until now he has contested 170 elections and has lost all of them.
Incidentally, that is the reason, Limca Book of Records have named this 60-year-old homeopath doctor from Salem, Tamil Nadu as “India’s Most Unsuccessful Candidate.” Know more about him!
Padmarajan Calls Himself All India Election King
The doctor turned businessman calls himself “All India Election King.” He not only contested the local or parliamentary elections but also was in the fray for Presidential elections. Obviously, losing so many times and still having the vigor to contest yet one more time indicates that winning or losing does not matter to him anymore.
Padmarajan runs his tire business as well as provides homeopathic medicines to the pilgrims of Sabarimala. His career as the serial loser started in 1988 when he contested for the assembly seat from Mettur.
Since then he has contested for elections against big names including P.V. Narasimha Rao, Manmohan Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Karunanidhi, K R Narayanan, Pratibha Patil, Pranab Mukherjee, and APJ Abdul Kalam.
Padmarajan Never Campaigns For Himself
With the campaigning for Lok Sabha Elections 2019 heating up across the country, it is surprising to know that K. Padmarajan never campaigns for himself.
However, despite being a non-aggressive and unthreatening rival for his oppositions, he had do face some darker side of the election process in India.
In 1991 while he was contesting against Narasimha Rao, Padmarajan was attacked and kidnapped. The kidnappers threatened him to withdraw.
According to K. Padmarajan, his intention behind contesting for election is not to win but to demonstrate that in Indian democracy, anyone can contest in the elections. Until now, Padmarajan has lost around 20 lakhs as a deposit in the elections.
He is quite assured of losing his deposit yet again but wants to continue contesting to keep up with his reputation as the most unsuccessful candidate in India.
