Located in the Belthangady taluk near Dharmasthala, the small town of Ujire is a part of the Dakshina Kannada district. It is an important junction for travelers by road and rail. Here are some special things that you can do to have a wonderful time when in Ujire, Karnataka:
Bandaje Falls
Bandaje or Arbi falls located in the section of Charmadi ghat of Western Ghats is surrounded by thick forests. Grasslands also form an important part of the thick cover and you can reach the place only by trekking. Local guides help you to reach the place during a rainy season when the water cascades from a height of 200 feet.
2. Sri Janardhanaswamy Temple
This temple in Ujire is quite well known in and around Karnataka. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu or Janardhana, the Sri Janardhanaswamy temple is one of the oldest temples in the Dakshina Kannada or South Canara district. It was built almost 800 years ago.
3. Jamalabad Fort or Gadai Kallu
Built by Tipu Sultan in 1794, the Jamalabad Fort or Gadai Kallu is located at 1788 feet above sea level. Formerly called Narasimha Ghada, the fort is located at a distance of just 5 km from the town of Ujire. Tipu Sultan named the fort after Jamalabee, his mother. The place is also a favorite destination of trekkers offering a medium difficulty level for climbing the top of the structure. You can catch some breathtaking views from the top of the fort that offers a magnificent glimpse of Kudremukh range.
4. Surya Sadashivarudra Temple
The Surya Sadashivaruda Temple is located in Nada village at a distance of 6 km from the town of Ujire. The beautiful surroundings leave the visitors spellbound when they visit the temple to get rid of problems like delay in marriage, unemployment, education, and childlessness. As a part of an offering to the god, the devotees offer mud and wish for the fulfillment of their desires.
5. Dharmasthala
Just as the name suggests Dharmasthala is a very important pilgrimage center of the state of Karnataka. Dedicated to Lord Shiva or Manjunathaswamy, thousands of people visit Dharmasthala every day. Millions of pilgrims visit Dharmasthala in November during Lakshadeepotsava.
6. Didupe And Ermai Falls
Didupe and Ermai falls are the two wonderful waterfalls near Dharmasthala located at the base of Charmadi Ghat. You can enjoy the amazing scenic beauty by booking for camping-trekking here for two days. It offers peace and tranquility and lifts up your mood.
The Didupe falls down to create a pond-like structure at its feet and you just feel like taking a jump into the water pool. However, since the base is neither steep or wide, swimming is not a good idea.
Ermai falls offers lots of adventure as it falls at multi-levels. If you have an adventurous heart and likes some excitement, you can just stand behind the fall where it strikes the middle level. But you have to be a very good trekker to reach these falls as it will need you to trek for around 15 km to reach Ermai and Didupe falls.
