The ICC Committee re-appointed the former famous leg spin bowler of India, Anil Kumble as the Chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee for a final term of three years. The committee took this decision at a recently held meeting in Dubai. The former Indian cricket team captain was first appointed as the chairman of the committee in 2012. In the year 2016, the committee re-appointed Kumble as the chairman for the second consecutive time.
ICC Reassures BCCI About Player’s Safety
In the wake of growing tension between India and Pakistan after the attack in Pulwama that killed more than 40 CRPF jawans, it is natural for BCCI to be a bit worried about the safety of Indian players. During the meeting, ICC reassured BCCI regarding the safety of its players and staff participating in the Men’s World Cup to be held in England in summer.
In its release, ICC stated, “The Board moved to reassure members around security ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in light of recent communication from BCCI and confirmed that as is normal practice this will continue to be monitored through to the end of the event.”
The CEO of ICC CEO David Richardson said: “As you would expect for a global sporting event, the ICC, in partnership with the ECB has a robust security plan in place for the Men’s Cricket World Cup. We work closely with the authorities in our host countries to ensure that the safety of players, officials and fans is a priority.”
Richardson further added that if the intelligence reports that the threat level has gone up, the ICC will also uplift its security commitment as required.
ICC Wants BCCI To Become Wada Compliant
The ICC wants BCCI to become Wada compliant. The BCCI also confirmed unanimously that it wants to become Wada compliant. The BCCI updated the team of ICC Board about the recent changes in the anti-doping programs in India at domestic level. The ICC Board said that it wants to work in union with Wada and the India NADA for resolving matters related to the same in urgency.
After the Pulwama attack and surgical airstrike by the Indian army, there has been news that India may not play with Pakistan in the world cup. However, the Board of Cricket Control In India will have a tough time convincing the ICC Board as to why India is not willing to play against its neighbor. As per the schedule, India will clash with Pakistan on 16th June this year.
