On Monday, the Indian government banned 59 mobile applications that have its origin in China citing the reason for protecting the data and privacy of the people of India. This comes in the wake of the military face-off between India and China along the eastern Ladakh region.
For safety, security, defense, sovereignty and integrity of India and in order to protect the data of the people of India, the Government of India banned these applications. This has been long requested by the social media users after the Chinese military had a face-off with the Indian military killing 20 Indian soldiers.
The 59 Chinese applications include the hugely popular content creating app Tik Tok, UC browser, Helo, Likee, CamScanner, Vivo Video, Mi Video Call, Clash of Kings along with the e-commerce platforms like Club Factory and Shein. The Information Technology Ministry said that it had received many complaints from various sources and also had received reports of the misuse of some of the applications that would steal and surreptitiously transmitting users data in an unauthorized manner to servers that have locations outside India.
Some of the Alternatives to the major applications that have been banned are:
Tik Tok
There are many applications that are similar to Tik Tok in nature. One can consider the Indian applications Mitron and Chingari. While both are not as popular as Tik Tok, they offer similar services. Chingari has seen over 2.5 million downloads in the last week.
UC Browser, DU Browser, CM Browser, and APUS Browser
Even though these browsers weren’t significant like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, they attracted a fair bit of traffic. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox have been largely accepted browsers across the world. Jio has also launched its own browser called JioBrowser.
YouCam Makeup, BeautyPlus, and Photo Wonder Alternative
B612’ Beauty & Filter Camera is a pretty good alternative to beauty applications and photo editing tools. The application also offers real-time beauty effects.
ShareIt and Xender
While iOS has the inbuilt Airdrop application to share files, android users can switch to the Files Go application that is developed by Google for the same reason.
CamScanner
CamScanner was one of the popular applications that were used to scan documents and convert it into PDFs. The alternate to CamScanner is Adobe Scan which is a free application while CamScanner had paid services.
Shein
Shein was popular for woman fashion. Now that is gone, people can always rely on Myntra which is India’s biggest fashion retailer.
Mi Video Call
Mi Video call was Xiaomi’s exclusive video calling applications. However, there is a range of applications that offer the same service.
