The success of Rishab Shetty
Kannada film Kantara joins the bandwagon of becoming another blockbuster hit from the south films. Just like RRR, KGF Chapter 2, Kantara has also become extremely popular in all linguistic entertainment industries of India.
Rishab Shetty is not only the lead actor in the Kannada-language action thriller but also wrote and directed the film. To date, it has grossed Rs. 361 crores approx in India and another Rs. 36 crore overseas for a global box office total of Rs. 397 crores, just under the Rs. 400 crores mark.
This huge amount coming from the success of Kantara means a lot to Rishab Shetty as since the beginning he had worked hard in the industry and used to get less income for his work. Speaking to Netflix, the Kantara star opens up about the time when he started making money and what was his first salary.
Do you remember your first salary?
“I think It was when I was in college. At that time I sold a 25 ltr mineral water can for rs 50. Interestingly, I bought the bottle myself for Rs 25 in 2003. I made a 25 rs profit then,” said Rishab with a burst of laughter.
“And also in 2004, I was working in a film late that year. For working for 1.5 years with the same team I was given 1,500 Rs. So I gave that money to my mother. And I told her to keep these 3 notes (500 rs note of 3) and give that back in the future when I earn a name in the film industry.”
Surprisingly, the Kantara actor never got those notes back. Explaining the story further the 39-year-old said, “I never got my 3 notes back from my mother. When I was back after 6 months from college, my mother gave it as a salary to the people who were working in our farm fields.”
“After this, I even fought with my mother for her doing. She then apologized and said she would return my 1500 rs. But I rejected it. I only wanted those 3 notes,” says Rishab and laughs.
