“Years Of Torture”: Shashi Tharoor After Verdict On Wife’s Death

Finally the day has come when the congress MP and one of the well-known  politicians of India Dr.Shashi Tharoor can take a sigh of relief after seven year long toiling over a case in which he was unnecessarily dragged and was alleged to be a conspiracy to fade his political presence.

His wife Sunanda Pushkar mysterious death case has finally come to an end as Tharoor has been freed of all the charges which was imposed upon him by Delhi Police.Today the Delhi court in its verdict cleared all the murder charges and declared him innocent in the case which was looming for years now

Tharoor’s Reaction On The Verdict

“Most grateful, your honour. It’s been seven-and-half years of absolute torture. I really appreciate it,” Tharoor said in his first reaction to the Delhi court verdict in the case.The Kerala Congress MP said that the court order was a big relief for him. Tharoor also issued a statement on his Twitter handle after he was acquitted of all charges in the case.

“…Significant conclusion to long nightmare which had enveloped me after tragic passing of Sunanda…Fact that justice has been done will allow all of us in the family to mourn Sunanda in peace,” Shashi Tharoor said in the statement after being discharged by Delhi court in the Sunanda Pushkar death case.

What Was The Sunanda Murder Case?

Sunanda Pushkar, 51, was found dead in a suite of a luxury hotel in Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014, while Shashi Tharoor was attending a Congress meet in Delhi along with then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Gandhis and the entire Congress leadership.

The Tharoors had moved into the hotel because the MP’s home was being renovated. Shashi Tharoor was charged with abetment to suicide and cruelty by the Delhi Police.

The Congress leader, seeking his discharge, had told the court that evidence showed the death of Sunanda Pushkar was neither a suicide nor homicide.The death should be considered an accident, he had said, as Ms Pushkar had been struggling with various medical ailments at the time of her death.For years Tharoor’s political rivals were targeting him over this case which has been officially closed today by the court.
