Immature director, Ineffective Ananya, tedious script, and whatnot. Film critic Anupama Chopra has trolled liger brutality. Here’s what she has to say about the film.
Anupama’s Liger review
Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday’s bilingual film received an average response ever since the film was released. Several viewers and trade experts criticized the film and trolled it brutally. Now, it was Anupama Chopra’s turn to take the troll to a next level.
“There’s a scene in Liger, where Tannya (Ananya Pandey) experiences something unpleasant. Her immediate response is, ‘Where’s my Vodka?‘. Which is exactly how I felt after watching the film. And I don’t even drink,” said Film Companion’s Anupama Chopra.
“Liger is excruciating. Director Puri Jagannadh delivers such an immature flick that it seems impossible to believe that this is a filmmaker with over 2 decades of experience and 39 directorial credits in IMDB including smash hits like Pokri and Temper.”
“These kinds of films can dim the light of a star like Vijay Devarakonda. The actor’s industrial strength Karizma is frittered away in the most absurd scenes. Vijay has worked really hard to capture the pathos of Liger by bringing emotions to the character. But Puri has no interest in exploring the depths of Liger or creating a three-dimensional character.”
Overall review
“The rest of the cast has no scope at all. Ananya Pandey is playing a version of the same role that she has played since her debut in 2019 with Student Of The Year 2. Ananya’s role as Tannya has this scene where she says that she wants to go to Hollywood to pursue a career in acting. This was one time in the film that I ‘Smiled’.” saying that Anupama adds, “There’s also a time when Vijay as Liger calls Tannya a ‘beautiful Toy‘, but even toys have personality.”
“I had high hopes for the film as it was a Bollywood and Telgu film crossover. I thought Liger would be original and something inventive, but I was wrong. The only highlight of this film is Vijay Devarakonda’s artfully designed disheveled hair. Hope I get the product he is using.’
Would Anupama Chopra recommend others to watch Vijay Devarakonda’s liger? The 55-year-old said,” I have endured Liger. You don’t have to.
