Vijay Shankar Ruled Out Of The World Cup, Mayank Agarwal Came In But Rayudu Got Trolled!

Vijay Shankar owing to a toe injury, who had been ruled out ahead of the match against England for Sunday has now been ruled out of the tournament as well. He faced a toe injury during net sessions while facing Jasprit Bumrah before the match. For the current scenario, the Karnataka lad Mayank Agarwal will be replacing Vijay Shankar for the rest of the tournament.

Vijay Shankar ruled out due to injury

India skipper Virat Kohli had informed at the toss during the England game on Sunday that the all-rounder had a toe niggle and the signs weren’t too good. Vijay was struck on his left foot by a Jasprit Bumrah yorker at training on June 20. Not perceived to be serious initially, Vijay was part of India’s XI for the match against Afghanistan on June 22. However, the injury flared up on Friday, two days prior to the England game on Sunday.

The BCCI has already approached the International Cricket Council (ICC) with the request that has been approved. Shankar is on his way back to India while Agarwal is on his way to London. “Vijay sustained a non-displaced fracture of the left big toe, which will require a minimum of three weeks to heal. The injury rules him out of the ongoing World Cup,” stated a BCCI media release. Source

Shankar hasn’t been in the best of form in the tournament where he had failed to live up to the expectations of the fans. Earlier, he was also criticized by the BCCI’s chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth and had asked the team management to go with Rishab Pant over Shankar.

Agarwal as a replacement

The Indian team management is likely to ask for Mayank Agarwal as a replacement since he is an opener and also it might give KL Rahul a chance to get back to the No.4 position. The selection of Agarwal over Raydu is possibly a sign of him being looked at as the third opener. KL Rahul spent considerable time off the field during the England game after bruising his back while attempting a catch at the boundary. Deemed to be an external injury, he eventually returned to open the batting and was dismissed for a nine-ball duck.

Agarwal over Rayudu has again turned the twitter to troll the Hyderabad batsman and have turned social media into hilarious memes and jokes.
