As a vegan, I’ve been yearning for an easy way to find new vegan recipes. Normally, when I want to try a new recipe I go on Google and search for vegan lunch or dinner ideas. However, it can take some time to sort through results, and I’m not always near my computer. Also, vegan recipes sometimes take a bit more time to find because many regular recipes include ingredients that are not part of a vegan diet. So, I decided to find an easier way to discover delicious vegan recipes when I’m on the go. After doing a little bit of research, I came across a list of the top 10 vegan recipes apps for mobile devices.
I tested out some of the apps, and I also tried some of the recipes they recommended. I selected my top 4 favorites and reviewed them. My first two picks are great if you want to put together a list of your favorite recipes to access them quickly anytime. My next two picks are great for finding delicious vegan dessert recipes.
Vegan Recipe Apps for Creating a Favorites List
When you come across a great recipe, the first thing you want to do is save it in a safe place that you can easily access anytime you need it. The first group of apps I selected have a favorites list feature, so you can keep an organized list of your favorite vegan recipes. No need to print or hand-copy ingredients and instructions. Simply tap to save recipes you love and keep them handy anytime you need them.
Apps: Kitchen Stories, Tasty
My first pick is Kitchen Stories. What I really like about it is that you don’t have to be an expert in the kitchen to make any of the delicious recipes. I found the step by step instructions really easy to follow and I liked that they are accompanied by many photos that walk you through the process. I particularly liked the high-quality instructional videos as they really help for learning how to cook the recipe from beginning to end. I also liked that there are many vegan and vegetarian recipes to choose from and that you can easily save your favorites with a single tap. The only drawback I found is that the instructional videos don’t have voice instructions, as they are text-based. However, the instructions are highly detailed, so you won’t have any problems following the recipes.
My second pick is Tasty. I was already familiar with Tasty since I follow the site on Facebook and Instagram. So, when I saw that they had an app, of course, I had to try it out. I have found many great vegan recipes on Tasty, so if you are looking for some great recipe ideas, this is a great start. I also enjoy watching recipe videos as they really break down the process in a concise, informative, and entertaining way. My only complaint is the ads. Although I didn’t find them to be intrusive, they do last between 10-15 seconds, which is slightly longer. However, the recipes are truly delicious, so they quickly make up for the short wait.
Vegan Recipe Apps with Great Dessert Recipes
I love food, but if there is something that I have a weak spot for, it’s desserts. However, finding vegan dessert recipes can be hard if you don’t know where to look. My second group of apps not only have great vegan meal options, but they also have countless vegan dessert recipes, so you can satisfy your sweet tooth.
Apps: Yummly Recipes & Shopping List, Vegan Amino
My third pick is Yummly Recipes & Shopping List. I found it to be a great choice if you are looking for great recipe ideas for the whole family. Not only can you find vegan recipes, but you can also filter out recipes to fit specific dietary requirements such as gluten-free, dairy-free, and more. The dessert selection is vast, which is a huge plus (at least for me!). I tried out a vegan banana pudding recipe which I accompanied with some vegan cookies and it was an instant hit at home. Although I didn’t’ have any issues, I noticed that some users reported a bug where their internet connection isn’t recognized. However, apparently it doesn’t happen often, and the developers have been very responsive to those users. So, hopefully, a fix will be included soon.
My fourth pick is Vegan Amino. This is probably one of my favorites simply because all the recipes are vegan. Another plus I found is that you can meet and chat with other vegans to share your cooking tips, tricks and experiences. I particularly liked the recipe selection as it is vast and continually growing, and you can even contribute with your own recipes too. Because it is also a social app, Vegan Amino does stay running in the background as it continually checks and lets you know if you get any messages from fellow vegans. However, I kept a close eye on my phone’s resources and I found that Vegan Amino doesn’t use up too much phone memory or battery.
So, these are my top 4 favorite apps for finding vegan recipes. So far, I’ve cooked a couple of recipes from each one, and some of them even became instant favorites with my family. If you are looking for easy, delicious and varied vegan recipes, then I’m sure you will love any of these picks. Happy cooking!
