Varaha Roopam Row: The Kerala High Court Brings New Trouble To The Kantara Team

The Kerala High Court has stayed the district court’s order in favor of the Thaikkudam Bridge team regarding the usage of the Varaha Ruoopam song. The Kantara film team is disappointed by this.

Kerala High Court stays the order

The Kerala High Court has stayed the order of the Kozhikode District Court, which returned the petition of the band Thaikkudam Bridge on the copyright violation of the song Varaha Roopam used in the film Kantara.

A single-judge bench headed by Justice P Somarajan stayed the judgment of the district court which had ordered permission for the song ‘Varaha Roopam’ to be re-released. It has also issued notices to Hombale Banner, Rishabh Shetty, Prithviraj Films, Amazon Seller Services Private Limited, Google India Head Office, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and others.

The plagiarism charges

The Kerala-based band, Thaikkudam Bridge, had alleged that the Varaha Roopam song used in Rishab Shetty’s Kantara had been plagiarised from their own song Navarasam.

The Kozhikode District Court had earlier ordered dismissing the Thyakkudam Bridge petition, which had alleged plagiarism against the song ‘Varaha Rupam’.

Following the Kozhikode district court’s ruling, the Kerala band came up with a fresh plea before the Kerala High Court. The Kozhikode District Court’s decision to return the copyright claim was then stayed by the High Court. The district court had previously ruled that the subject was beyond its purview.
