In his latest press briefing, United States President Donald Trump suggested people with the infection of novel coronavirus to inject themselves of disinfectant or bleach that would potentially kill the virus. This theory comes at the back of several unscientific claims made by the US President.

At his daily press briefing at the White House, Donald Trump shocked the reporters and possibly his team as well when he asked people to inject disinfectants into their bodies. He said,

“One minute! And is there a way we can do something, by an injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that. So, that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me.”

FDA asks people not to follow the President’s advice

Post the briefing, Dr. Stephen Hann, a member of the coronavirus taskforce and the Commissioner of FDA spoke to CNN where he strongly advised people not to follow the instructions by the President. The FDA later strictly warned the country of consuming disinfectant in any way which could later cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and symptoms of severe dehydration.

When one of the journalists present at the briefing questioned Trump about his claim, the President dismissed him by saying ‘I am the President, you are fake news.’

Another Trump administration official said that light and heat could kill the virus. Bill Bryan, the under Secretary of Homeland Security for Science and Technology addressed the briefing in the presence of President Trump. According to him and the studies that were undertaken by the US, there is evidence that the virus acts vulnerably when exposed to solar light and heat. He also advocated that the temperature and humidity will help India in its fight against the coronavirus.

As per another research conducted by the US, the virus on saliva and respiratory fluids can be destroyed by Bleach in 5 minutes and isopropyl alcohol in 30 seconds. Bryan also admitted that the US is looking at possible disinfectants that could kill the virus in the saliva. He also claimed that the virus’s weakness is a high temperature, solar light, and UV rays.

The claim by the Trump administration left Twitter stunned.
