The southern film industry dominated the box office in 2022. Many south stars like Yash, Prabhas, Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu, Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Rishab Shetty, etc have made their fan base amongst the Hindi audience through their class act, dialogue delivery, and dance skills.
After the success of KGF 2, RRR, Vikram, PS-1, and Kantara last year, the audience has high hopes that in 2023 also the South Film industry would continue to entertain them.
So, here we list out some of the highly anticipated South Indian Movies that are soon going to hit theatres near you.
1. Ponniyin Selvan: Part II
Seeing how sequels manage to outscore their first part (Bahubali, KGF), expectations are high that PS:2 would deliver the same. Helmed by Mani Ratnam, the film ended the first one with a fine cliffhanger, and finishing this game of thrones will only make the final part more exciting.
2. Salaar
Prabhas is all set to make quite an impact in 2023, as the film will witness the actor’s collaboration with KGF director Prashanth Neel. Produced by Hombale Films (Kantara, KGF films), Salaar could be the pan-India phenomenon that Prabhas has been hoping for since SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali.
3. Jailer
Rajinikanth’s 169th film is titled, Jailer. The film went on the floor in Aug 2022 and 75% of the shooting is completed. As per a report of Pinksvilla, Aishwarya Rai will play the main lead opposite Rajini while Dr. Shiva Rajkumar will have a cameo role.
4. Dhoomam
After acting in successful Pan India films like Pushpa and Vikram, Fahadh Faasil joins hands with Pawan Kumar of Lucia and U-Turn fame for what will be Hombale Films’ first Malayalam production. The thriller also features Aparna Balamurali.
5. Indian 2
2.0 helmer Shankar will release Indian 2, a sequel to the 1996 classic, with Kamal Haasan returning to repeat the role of a vigilante setting things right. The film also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Gulshan Grover, and Bobby Simha.
6. Kabzaa
Upendra Rao starrer Kabzaa is a Kannada film and will release in seven Indian languages including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Malayalam. Along with Upendra, it has Kiccha Sudeep, Shriya Saran, Kabir Duhan Singh, and Danish Akhtar Saifi among others.
7. Ram Charan 15
Ram Charan will join hands with Shankar, for what is the filmmaker’s Telugu language debut. The political thriller is based on a story by Karthik Subbaraj and also stars Kiara Advani.
8. Thalapathy 67
The helmer of films like Kaithi and Vikram, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Thalapathy Vijay are back for another action spectacle. This one also has Sanjay Dutt, Vishal, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Trisha Krishnan.
9. Project K
Project K is the most anticipated film for so many reasons, one is that the film will mark the maiden project of Prabhas and director Nag. Second, it is a high-budget film, it will see Deepika Padukone’s Telugu debut. Senior Bachchan is also roped in for this upcoming film.
10. NTR30
Bharat Ane Nenu fame filmmaker Koratala Siva is joining hands with the RRR fame Jr. NTR for his next. The film is said to be a high-budget film, made with a production cost of over Rs 300 Cr. The film is not yet titled, it is tentatively being called NTR 30. It is expected to be released this year.
11. Thangalaan
Chiyaan Vikram of PS-1 fame will star in Thangalaan. It will be directed by Pa. Ranjit of Kabali, Kaala, and Madras fame. It is set to release in cinemas in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
12. Thunivu
Ajith Kumar’s film talks about a mysterious mastermind and his team forming a plan and committing bank heists across Chennai, but their motive for the heists remains mysterious. Thunivu wrapped up filming in Oct 2022 and is scheduled to release on Pongal 2023. Along with Ajith, the film has Manju Warrier, John Kokken, Samuthirakani, Mamathi Chari, Veera and Prem Kumar.
