“To Get Medical Seat In India One Has To Give Crores of Rupees”: Father of Naveen Shekharappa

Yesterday a news was reported that an Indian student hailing from Karnataka named Naveen Shekharappa has been killed in a shelling. Some reports also went on to say that he was shot dead by the Russian troops. Whatever may be the reason, the young boy has lost his life but now his father’s statements have been attracting much attention.

The student’s father Shekaragouda, a resident of Haveri district alleged that no one from the Indian Embassy reached out to stranded Indian students in Kharkiv in Ukraine amid the offensive attack of Russia.

His father also said Naveen along with others from Karnataka was stuck in a bunker in Kharkiv. He went out in the morning to exchange currency and to fetch some food when he was caught shelling happened, in which he was killed instantly. Naveen on a call to his father said that there was no food and water in the bunker hence he went out.

His father also went on to say that to get medical education in India, a student or any individual in India has to pay crores of Rupees but in foreign nations, the same is available at a lesser cost for the students of India. He added that despite scoring 97% in PUC he did not get a medical seat in India.

Further, learning about the tragedy, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai called up Shekaragouda over phone and expressed his sorrow. The CM assured Shekaragouda he would make every effort to bring back his son’s body to India. He also told him that he is touch with the officials in the external affairs ministry.
