Sharda Pundit As Girija Tickoo
Girija Tickoo, in The Kashmir Files, is a character based on real-life events. Girija was from Bandipora and worked as a lab assistant at a government school in Kashmir. She was married to a Kashmiri Pandit. In a brutal incident, she was tortured and then was brutally murdered on a mechanical saw after being gang-raped.
BK Ganjoo
BK Ganjoo was a telecommunication engineer. The character was inspired by the incident described in the film. He was placed in Kashmir when he died. Before getting killed, he hid in his house while his neighbors gave hints to the terrorist about his whereabouts. Ganjoo was taken away and was pumped full of bullets, and left bleeding on the rice. Later, the terrorist asked her wife to eat the rice soak in the blood, and feed it to her children too.
Farooq Malik Bitta As Farooq Ahmed Dar
Chinmay Mandlekar played the role of Farooq Ahmed Dar. Named as Farooq Malik Bitta in the film. Farooq was born in Kashmir in January 1973 and was the leader and chairman of the JKLF. Later, he was arrested in 2019 and is presently detained.
Yasin Khan
Yasin Malik’s character is also played by Chinmay Mandlekar. Yasin is a terrorist who was responsible for the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits. He is also responsible for the murder of four Air Force officers in January 1990. Ravi Khanna was one of the four Indian Air Force personnel was killed by Yasin Mallik and other JKLF terrorists
Ravi Khanna IAF officer
An Indian Air Force officer, Ravi Khanna was shot and killed by Yaseen Malik on January 25, 1990, while he was going to his office. Squadron Leader, who was 38-year-old at that time, was shot 27 times with an AK-47 assault rifle. Later in 2019, her wife Shalini Khanna received justice as the terrorists were taken into custody.
Radhika Menon As JNU Professor
According to speculations, the character of Radhika Menon is based on Nivedita Menon. Nivedita Menon is a JNU professor and a writer in real life. Menon teaches political theory and comparative politics to the students at JNU. She was accused of chanting “anti-national” sentiments in support of Kashmir. In the movie, JNU is depicted as ANU.
Anupam Kher as Pushkar Nath
Pushkar Nath is a very simple man who doesn’t know what is happening around him during the exodus. Sharing details of his character, Anupam said in an interview that he used his father’s name to represent the Kashmir Pandits who were forced to leave their homes. He wanted to replicate the life of his father in the movie. He said that he played the role of the 5 lakh Pandits who were forced to leave Kashmir. And he chose the name of his father for this character because he wanted to replicate his father’s life while enacting this role.
