Technology To The Rescue! BBMP Employs Drones To Combat COVID-19 Outbreak

The widespread outbreak of the COVID-19 seems to be bringing the best out of our administrative outfits. In the latest development, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has turned towards innovative use of technology to combat the turbulent times.

Drones to the rescue

On 24th March, Mayor M Goutham Kumar signaled the start of the campaign, which includes an extensive sanitization drive using drones. Yes, you heard that right. BBMP’s latest weapon has already sprayed disinfectants across the KR Market area.

All 198 wards in the plan

While the primary aim is to bring all the 198 wards of the city into the campaign, BBMP has initially targeted significant places such as Town Hall Circle and KR Market for this drive. Focus is also on the areas where a cluster of quarantined people are located.

As of now, tractors with a capacity of 6000 liters are being used, with each vehicle hosting 10 spraying machines. Sodium Hypochlorite solution is said to be the major constituent of disinfectant.

BBMP’s latest idea is terrific, and hopefully, this helps in the stoppage of the spread.
