On Monday morning, the Indian Twitter trended the hashtag #RajivGandhiIsMurderer after an FIR was filed against the BJP MLA Tajinder Singh Bagga for his offensive tweet on the former Prime Minister of India.
On May 11th, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga quoted Sambit Patra’s tweet and said,
“I don’t agree with @SambitSwaraj ji, He said Rajiv Gandhi killed 3000 people. I want to say its just an official figure, an unofficial figure is more than 5000. Rajiv Gandhi is a murderer.”
The FIR was registered by the district President of India Youth Congress in Chattisgarh. The FIR was filed under sections 153A, 505, and 66 of the IT Act which accuses Bagga of disrupting communal harmony among people.
After the news of the FIR broke out, many came in support of the BJP MLA and trended #RajivGandhiIsMurderer on Twitter. Here are some of the tweets.
