Subhash Ghai Trolled to sell his property after he demands temples to donate

Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai was brutally trolled on Twitter as became the latest entrant into the list of Bollywood Celebrities to receive flak on the platform. Ghai was trolled for his post which asked the temples to donate 90 percent of their reserves to the pandemic.

Subhash Ghai took to twitter to question the temples that are rich in gold reserves and said that they have the moral responsibility to donate to the cause that has become a threat to human lives. He tagged the Prime Minister’s Office in his tweet and wrote,

“Is it not the right time to reach the temples of our gods? When all rich temples with huge gold reserve should surrender to government and donate 90 percent of its gold to serve poor people under stress since they got it from people only in the name of gods?”

The Repercussions of the Tweet

However, the tweet didn’t go well with a fraction of Twitter as many hit back at the filmmaker asking him to sell his educational institute Whistling Woods instead of asking the donation from temples. Some of them even dug into his MeToo allegations that were surfaced two years back. One user wrote,

“All film star directors and producers should also donate 90 percent of their properties and wealth since they have also earned it from their devotees.”

Another user wrote,

“Why don’t you hand over the huge Whistling Woods Complex that you got at such a low rate in Aarey or your luxurious Madh Islands bungalow?”

Despite taking the names of any temple, it seems Ghai has taken a dig at the Tirumala Tirupati temple that recently announced itself as broke and refused to break its deposits. The temple that has been closed for over two months came out and said that the trust has hit rock bottom economically. Touted as the richest temple in the world, the trust said it has money only to pay salaries for the month of May.

The Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam YS Subba Reddy told the media that despite the crisis, the trust has reserves to sustain for the month of May. If the situation persists, it can survive for another month but he ruled out the possibility of drawing money from the fixed deposits or even breaking the gold deposits in the bank.
