Shah Rukh and his manager Pooja Dadlani were seen together near the mortal remains but what was peculiar here was how Shah Rukh was making ‘Dua’ and Pooja folded her hands as Pranaam. The internet saw this as a beautiful rendition of the idea of unity in diversity.

A tweet by a Haryana BJP leader, however, stoked up a controversy. Arun Yadav shared a short clip that shows Shah Rukh Khan saying the dua, removing his mask, and blowing air.

“Did he spit?” Mr. Yadav asked in a Twitter post, setting off a targeted social media attack against the actor, with many accusing Mr. Khan of disrespecting the legendary singer at her funeral.

But he received severe backlash from the netizens.

It was later clarified that he performed a Muslim ritual and did not spit!

Following the blowback, the BJP leader today tweeted that he had “just asked a question” and that “opponents did not appreciate his work in the national interest”.
