In the wake of an AIIMS forensic report that said Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput had died by suicide, senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Sunday demanded the release of actress Rhea Chakraborty and alleged that she was a “victim of a political conspiracy”

“Rhea Chakraborty is innocent and should be released without further harassment to her. She has been a victim of political conspiracy,” the Lok Sabha member and Congress Bengal unit President said.

Taking a dig at the BJP, he said that now the party’s propaganda machinery may accuse the All India Institute of Medical Sciences forensic team of some wrong-doing of refuting the allegation that Rhea Chakraborty conspired to get Sushant killed.

“But we are all pained by the demise of Sushantji. But he cannot be honoured by falsely implicating a woman as an accused,” Chowdhury said.

Rhea Chakraborty is currently in judicial custody in an NDPS case registered by NCB. Besides the CBI probe into the death of Sushant, the Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) are probing the money laundering and drugs angles to the case. The NCB had arrested Rhea Chakraborty, Showik, Miranda, Sawant in connection with the drug case.

Actor Swara Bhasker has called for the release of Rhea Chakraborty, who remains incarcerated at the Byculla Jail for allegedly procuring banned drugs for her boyfriend, the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Sushant died on June 14, and his family has accused Rhea of abetting his suicide and misappropriating his funds. Her judicial custody had been extended to October 6.

In a tweet supporting Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Chowdhury’s calls for Rhea’s release, Swara wrote, “Well done sir!” and added applause emojis, using the hashtag “Release Rhea Chakraborty.” The comments come shortly after an AIIMS forensic team tasked with re-evaluating Sushant’s post-mortem report concluded that the actor died by suicide, and wasn’t murdered.

“We are all pained by the expiry of Sushant Ji but he cannot be honoured by falsely implicating a lady as an accused, I have earlier said that Rhea Chakroborty was an innocent lady, she should be released without further harassment to her, she has been the victim of political conspiracy,” the MP had written in a tweet.
