Rajat Patidar’s century against KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2022 Eliminator will be remembered for a very long time. The batter, who went unsold at IPL 2022 mega auction, was roped in as a replacement player by RCB for Luvnith Sisodia.
Stunning knock
After Kohli, Faf, and Maxwell’s failure, the 28-year-old from Madhya Pradesh was invited to bat. Batting under pressure, Rajat Patidar produced the most stunning knocks in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in a high-pressure match.
Patidar is the first centurion for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the playoffs. The previous highest individual score for the franchise was 89 by Chris Gayle against Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier of the 2011 season.
The unsold player
Interestingly, the Madhya Pradesh batsman went unsold at the IPL 2022 mega auction. It was only later he received a call to be included in the RCB squad as a replacement player for Luvnith Sisodia. Patidar has grabbed this opportunity and has done more than enough to seal his spot in the RCB team in the long run.
With Faf du Plessis dismissed for zero and with Kohli and Maxwell dismissed for average runs, Patidar showed nerves of steel to shake KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants. Right from the start, he tortured the LSG bowlers by hitting shots all over the ground. He then performed a pull shot to bring up his century off just 49 balls in front of a jam-packed crowd at the iconic Eden Gardens.
The cricket fans will hope that Patidar’s contribution to RCB stays till the final and his form will also give yearning to several Indian youngsters, who go unsold at auction, to be ready to grab the next opportunity.
