Rahul Dravid is indeed one of the most loved cricketers of India both for his skillset and his humble personality. He was known as the ‘Wall’ or ‘Mr. Dependable’ for his performances, particularly in the Test format of Cricket. Though extremely popular, he has not been involved in any controversies nor has he thrown tantrums at the media or anyone else on the record.
Talking about his personal life, he is married to Vijeta Tendulkar and has two sons, namely, Samit Dravid and Anvay Dravid. There are several stories about the couple’s married life but the story worth knowing is how the couple booked two rooms when they were on their cricketing tours.
In the tribute to her husband, while he retired in 2012, Vijeta wrote a heartfelt note on the ESPNcricinfo platform where she spoke about the reason for the same. This was due to the fact that their kids were small but Dravid would insist on having them around. The day before the game, the boys would be asked to leave their dad alone in another room where he would do his meditation and visualization exercises.
Not just this, in this note, she also writes about how she would help him pack his bags for the tour except for his cricket kit. She speaks about the fact that this kit was scared to him and he was so equipped that he would uncover even a minute difference in it.
She writes, “Before he went on tour, I would pack all his other bags, but his cricket kit was sacred – I did not touch it; only he handled it. I know if I packed only two sets of informal clothes, he would rotate them through an entire tour if he had to and not think about it. He doesn’t care for gadgets, and barely registers brands – of watches, cologne, or cars. But if the weight of his bat was off by a gram, he would notice it in an instant and get the problem fixed.”
All we can say is that Rahul Dravid is indeed a legend.
