PM Modi Anquished: Mourns Rishi Kapoor’s Death

Following the demise of popular Bollywood actor, Rishi Kapoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the actor on Twitter. Rishi Kapoor was admitted to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai. He passed away at 8:45 on Thursday morning.

The Prime Minister took to the social media platform and sent his condolence to the family and friends of the actor. Prime Minister Modi recalled Rishi Kapoor as multifaceted, endearing, lively, and a powerhouse of talent. The Prime Minister also said he would cherish their interactions that happened on social media. He also expressed his grief and sent his condolences to the family.

The condolences for Rishi Kapoor came from across the political spectrum as Rahul Gandhi was one of the few to react first to the untimely incident. The former Congress President called it a terrible week for Indian Cinema with the passing away of two legends – Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor. Gandhi, too, condoled for the family, friends, and fans of Rishi Kapoor across the world.

Another Congress leader, Shashi Tharoor also expressed his grief of the death of Rishi Kapoor who also happened to be his senior schoolmate. Tharoor recalled memories of competing with Kapoor in inter-class dramatics in the year 1967-68.

Family Urges Fans to respect the law

The Kapoor family put out a statement later announcing the death of their dear one. The statement read,

“Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45 am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food, and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him.”

The statement further thanked all his fans who have been a pillar of support throughout his career spanning over 5 decades,

“He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears. In this hour of personal loss, we also recognize the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. He would not have it any other way.”
