Gaurav Taneja, a pilot in Air Asia and a prolific Youtube, was recently suspended by the airlines after he vlogged about the safety issues in the airlines. Taneja released a video explaining the reason behind his suspension which soon sparked off #BoycottAirAsia trend on Twitter.
In the video, Taneja talks about the various lapses he observed in the company and also mentions the unfavorable sick leave policy. Taneja quotes an incident from the 24th of March where he reported that he is sick and despite that the airlines forced him to fly. Taneja, in the video, says, if a pilot is not 100 percent fit and still flies a plane, he is potentially putting the lives of many under risk. He also called it nothing less than murder. He raised the issue with the higher authorities which didn’t go well for him as he was served a show-cause notice for his lifestyle problems. Taneja also shed light on various other lapses,
“No safety guidelines were followed. Many other times I have shared my observations about what was not right in many internal Whatsapp groups that fell on blind eyes. It’s an airline with so much money and resources, and yet the smallest things weren’t available. There was a severe lack of management. There’s a chalta hai attitude about safety in India. The way things are, I cannot guarantee passenger safety in flights. And if something goes wrong, it’s on my neck and not the airline’s.”
Twitter has come in huge support of Taneja and has condemned Air Asia.
