Shah Rukh Khan returns to the screens after four long years with YRF’s Pathaan. Pathan scripted box office history on Day 1 and it is having even higher footfalls on Republic Day.
Bollywood’s biggest opening day
After facing back-to-back 4 commercial underperformers, Shah Rukh Khan really has the audience on his side now. Returning to starring roles after a gap of over four years, SRK’s comeback film Pathaan is breaking box office records not only in India but also worldwide.
The film has delivered the biggest opening day ever for a Hindi film in India, with around Rs 53 crore (Rs 55 crore including the Tamil and Telugu language releases). The film’s day one gross, according to Pinkvilla, is Rs 67 crore. The three national cinema chains — PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis — have contributed towards nearly 50% of the film’s opening day figures, accounting for Rs 27 crore. The film is expected to deliver an even bigger day two, on account of the Republic Day holiday, which means that it will pass the coveted Rs 100 crore mark in two days. Reported Indian Express.
Beats KGF 2
Pathaan is now the biggest-ever Hindi debut of all time, overtaking KGF: Chapter 2 (Rs 53.9 crore), Hrithik Roshan-starrer War (Rs 53.3 crore), Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan (Rs 52 crore). Pathaan’s Rs 57 crore debut is also higher than the Rs 53 crore that Avengers: Endgame made on its opening day in India, in multiple languages.
Pathaan is anticipated to boost its box office earnings on January 26, Republic Day, and comfortably enter the Rs 100 crore club. This will be outstanding for Hindi cinema and will bring Shah Rukh Khan to the top of the biggest earner charts. Globally, the film has already grossed over Rs 100 crore. Pathaan also has the biggest opening day figures of Shah Rukh’s career, overtaking Happy New Year (Rs 44 crore).
It’s out:

Biggest ever opening for a Hindi film. That too, on an odd day which was not a holiday, and the film isn’t a sequel!!— Komal Nahta (@KomalNahta) January 26, 2023
