A leopard was spotted in the Karnataka capital’s outer Bengaluru, causing panic in surrounding areas. The leopard is on a hunt, and the forest department is looking for it. Cages have been placed at potential locations.
Leopard scare in Bengaluru
A high alert has been issued in some areas of South Bengaluru as four leopards were spotted in different areas of the city. As per reports, four big cats were sighted in Kengeri, Kumbalagodu, Devanahalli, and nearby areas of Bengaluru. A carcass of a deer killed by a leopard was also spotted by forest department authorities in Kodipalya near Kanakapura on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The leopard was last seen two days ago near Turahalli forests in the Kengeri area. According to Bangalore City Deputy Conservator of Forests SS Ravi Shankar, “The department is on alert, this is a forest area and Bannerghatta National Park is nearby”.
“The information we have is that there is one leopard, but people reported there are more than two. We are verifying the information and will give our report in a day or two,” he adds.
The corridor between the Turahalli State Forest spread over 519 acres and the Minor Turahalli Forest of almost the same size is six kilometers away from the Bannerghatta National Park, and wildlife is often seen here.
High alert issued
According to Economic Times Forest department authorities have also set up a cage to catch the wild cats on the premises of a private factory in Tarabanahalli in Devanahalli taluk of Bengaluru Rural district.
The authorities have urged the people against going out alone at night. They have also been asked to keep away from the reserve forests, play songs on their mobiles and talk loudly when they are moving at night.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old Meghana, a resident of Sakebbehundi near T. Narasipur town in Mysuru district, who was recently attacked by a leopard has succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
