Before the release of his latest film Cirkus, Rohit Shetty appeared quite confident in his film and even talked about why Bollywood is stumbling at the box office whereas his films are still working because he has a connection with the audience. But after the release of the Ranveer Singh starrer the Sooryavanshi Director is dumbfounded and oblivious to this surprise reaction from the audience.
Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus Flops
After the success of Drishyam 2, things finally started looking promising for the Hindi film industry. But Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus could not continue the run. Because of his track record, Rohit Shetty’s films open very big at the box office. He saved the Bollywood market with Sooryavanshi after covid, and recently, he was in the news for voicing against the people who were trolling badly about Bollywood films and their content.
Now the audience has given a big shock to Rohit Shetty’s film Cirkus. The film opened with a disastrous number of 7.5 Crores net in India on day 1 and there was no growth on day 2 even, and it dropped further from day 1 and collected just around 6.5 Crores on day 2. The film is heading towards one of the biggest disasters in Bollywood.
What went wrong with Cirkus
Film critics like Taran Adarsh came out of the theatre absolutely disappointed. “Rohit Shetty has set the bar very high,” he says. “If you look at his body of work, he’s made some great entertainers including Simmba and Sooryavanshi. But this was nowhere close to what he’s made. And especially with comedy, you have to laugh. Only the characters on screen were laughing. The audience has to laugh, that was missing.”
The trade analyst also revealed that Cirkus lacks entertainment which is supposed to be the USP of Rohit Shetty’s films. The trailer itself was misleading. Adarsh notes, “The trailer did not get the response that was needed, it just misfired. There was heavy criticism. So the first impression was lost. Secondly, not enough buzz was created around Ranveer Singh and Christmas release. Even the song featuring Deepika Padukone did not become a rage.”
#Cirkus continues to send shock waves… After a dismal start on Day 1, the biz is flat on Day 2… #Maharashtra and #Gujarat – the prime markets of #RohitShetty movies – remain low… All eyes on Day 3
[#Christmas]… Fri 6.25 cr, Sat 6.40 cr+. Total: ₹ 12.65 cr. #India biz. pic.twitter.com/Ix02PbCYUJ— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) December 25, 2022
Even Twitter drew comparisons with other box office disaster films of 2022 like Heropanti 2, Satyameva Jayate 2, and Rashtra Kavach OM saying that these films were so bad that you could actually burst into laughter in the intense moments; alas, the same could not be said about Cirkus. Netizens tagged Rohit Shetty’s film as ‘lazy, hollow, and absolutely painful’!
Bollywood should be really worried
Critics always give👎to Rohit Shetty movies but masses enjoy them
But #Cirkus public reaction is TERRIBLE
They find this remake of Angoor 🍇 KHATTE

Controversial statement
Before the release, Rohit Shetty was caught in a Controversy, in a media interaction, as he slammed people for sidelining Bollywood. He said that Hindi cinema has stirred out one blockbuster after another since the 1970s. He listed out Deewar, Don, Hum Aaapke Hai Kaun, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge, Singham, Sooryavanshi, Amar Akbar Anthony among several others.
The 48-year-old said that it was Bollywood that set the template of commercial movies in India, and 1 or 2 poor years can’t judge Bollywood’s credibility.
But as his latest film Cirkus, heading towards a massive tragedy, the audience is now blaming he should have spoken sensibly and not with overconfidence.
