The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) recently announced that the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) is the best Indian University with an overall score of 91.81. The NIRF ranking 2019 survey adjudged IIT Madras as the best Indian educational Institute, a place previously held by IISc.
The rankings were recently released by the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind.
JNU And The University Of Hyderabad In Top 5
The NIRF survey is conducted on behalf of the Union human resource development ministry. The survey ranked the Institute of Chemical Technology as the second best Indian University. It was followed by the Jawaharlal Nehru University and the University of Hyderabad at the third and fourth spot respectively.
It should be noted that both these universities were the centers of controversies recently around nationalism. Tezpur University in Assam was ranked 5th in this category followed by the University of Delhi or DU at 6th position, Banaras Hindu University or BHU at 7th position, and the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram at the 8th spot.
The Birla Institue of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani is at the 9th position and Aligarh Muslim University is at 10th position.
IISc Drops To Second Position In Overall Performance
IISc, however, has slipped down to the second position in the list of top 100 educational institutes according to their overall performance. IIT Madras has replaced IISc from the topmost position.
IIT Delhi, IIT Powai, Mumbai, and IIT Kharagpur have gained 3rd, 4th, and 5th spot respectively in this NIRF ranking.
According to the higher education secretary, R. Subrahmanyam, “The national ranking aims to measure the excellence of Indian institutions and create a sense of competition among colleges and universities to improve quality.”
Ever since the starting of these surveys, a number of institutions are eagerly participating in it as it helps to improve their credibility in the field of education.
IIMs Dominate Business Education In India
All the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have shown yet again that they are at the helm when it comes to business education in the country by being among the topmost institutes in the NIRF ranking 2019.
As per the survey, IIM-Bangalore is the topmost management institute in India followed by IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Kolkatta, IIM Lucknow, IIM Udaipur, and IIM Kozhikode.
IIM Indore is at the 10th spot. Among the non-IIM institutes, International Management Institute in Delhi is at 7th spot, Indian Institute of Forest Management in Bhopal is at the 8th spot and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur is at the 9th spot.
In the law school category, the National Law School of India University in Bengaluru has topped the NIRF ranking 2019. Under the best colleges category, St. Joseph’s College Of Commerce in Bengaluru is the only college in Karnataka to have gained a place in the overall ranking.
In the pharmacy category, two colleges from Karnataka, the Manipal College Of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Udupi (7) and Mysuru’s JSS College of Pharmacy (10) are in the top 10 rankings. In the category of architecture, Bengaluru’s BMS College of Architecture has been given 15th position by NIRF ranking 2019.
