Naseeruddin Shah on Kashmiri Hindus

Bollywood celebrity Naseeruddin Shah is the latest personality who got talking about The Kashmir Files movie, directed by Vivek Agnihotri. He criticized the controversial film by calling it an “almost fictionalized version” of the suffering of the Kashmiri Hindus. The government is promoting it instead of ensuring security and rehabilitation for the community, Shah said. “You talk about genocide and you get a slap on the wrist. There are double standards working here,” he said in his latest interview.

In an interview with NDTV, Shah appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step in and stop the ‘poison of hatred’ from spreading. His statements come at a time several Muslim nations raised the issue of the objectionable comments made by former BJP spokespersons on the Prophet Muhammad. The party took action against both Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, while the government distanced itself from those comments by calling them ‘fringe elements.

Three Khans of Bollywood

Shah also commented on why the three Khans of Bollywood maintain silence on political affairs. He said, “I cannot speak for them. I am not in the position they are in. I feel they think they would be risking too much. But then, I don’t know how they explain it to their own conscience about it. But I think they are in a position where they have too much to lose.”

“What happened to Shah Rukh Khan and the dignity with which he faced it was admirable. It was nothing but a witch-hunt. He has kept his mouth shut. All he did was support Trinamool and applaud Mamata Banerjee. Sonu Sood gets raided. Anyone who makes any statement gets a response. Maybe I am next. I don’t know. (laughs) Though they won’t find anything”, he said.
