One of the biggest releases from the Kannada cine industry, KGF Chapter 1 is a historical period action film written by Prashanth Neel and produced by Vijay Kiragandur. The movie was released in India on 21st of December, 2018 and has performed well commercially. The movie released in over two thousand screens worldwide – the biggest ever release for a Kannada film. Recent ratings and acclaim
The Kannada film has been released simultaneously in five languages and has received favorable reviews from all audiences irrespective of their native tongue.
According to a survey based on Ormax WOM Ratings (Word of mouth), KGF Chapter 1 has been ranked seventh amongst the most liked Hindi movies since 2009 and has clinched the second spot amongst those released in 2018.
The Ormax Media has given KGF Chapter 1 a score of 79 reflecting the content engagement of its viewers. For comparison, the top slot of Hindi movies in 2018 was narrowly taken by Sanju which was leading with a score of 80. The all-time high score from 2009 has been retained by the domestic film 3-Idiots with a score of 90.
KGF has been rated 8.8 on IMDb as of 23rd January 2019 and about 95% of its viewers have liked the film. Though not all critics have shared similar views, most viewers have given the film a good rating and the audience reception has been extremely supportive. The Bollywood Impact
The Hindi version of the film has collected over forty crores as of 11th January. In fact, it is the fourth highest grossing movie among the dubbed Hindi movies. It is absolutely fantastic that a quality south Indian film has once again made its mark in diverse markets where the industry doesn’t have much traditional reach.
Written by Prashant Neel – the director of the 2014 film Ugramm which was also well received amongst audiences continues to enthrall us with his movies. KGF has performed remarkably well in the box office and is the first Kannada film to enter the 100 crores and 200 crores bracket and is expected to cross 300 crores by the end of its run!
Set in the eighties, the story revolves around “Rocky” – a poor orphan who rises to become a don. The gripping storyline and riveting sequences compete with the visuals and art effects to impress the audience and impress they have! Many have already drawn comparisons to Prashanth Neel’s magnum opus and the much famed Baahubali series. The stunning background score by Ravi Basrur and Bhuvan Gowda’s Cinematography have made the 155-minute long movie worth every minute of a watch.
