The novel coronavirus pandemic has exposed us to many heroes who are otherwise forgotten. From medical workers to waste pickers, every one of them has stepped up in tough times when the society needed them the most. One such corona warrior is Mamata, a vegetable vendor.

On the 19th of April, a Facebook user Kshama Nargund put a post on Facebook that has since then gone viral. In the post, the user writes about Mamata who she met in Rajajinagar Ram Mandir. Through the post, she introduces Mamata and hails her contribution. She writes,

“Today evening, when I had gone to buy some vegetables, another person came and picked a really huge bunch of curry leaves. He asked her the price. She immediately asked him if he was taking them for cooking. He replied in affirmative. Then she inquired to whom they were cooking and found out that they were cooking for about 300 construction laborers. She further inquired which area are they supplying to and once she was convinced that they were genuine, she told them that they can take any number of vegetables as and when they want to for free.”

The Facebook user called her a mother to many and applauded her work in the midst of both medical and humanitarian crisis. The Facebook user further writes,

“She also told them that she would keep aside some vegetables for them every day even if everything comes back to normal and told them to inform the construction laborers to come and take it from her.”

When asked about the reason she was doing it, she simply replied with that’s the least she could do. Also, when the user asked her if she could take a picture of her, she shyly accepted the request.

Since the post has been published on the social media platform, people are going gaga over the deeds of Mamata. While some are referring to her as ‘mother India’, others are calling it the ultimate form of patriotism. The user signed off her post by offering her salute and called Mamata and her tribe as one of many ‘unsung mothers’ of the country.
