
Master Hirannaiah, the most respected and popular theatre artist has passed away today (May 2nd, 2019) in Bengaluru’s BGS hospital. The senior actor was suffering from liver and age-related ailments. He was being treated in the hospital from last few days.
Hirannaiah was an actor in Kannada film industry and a popular theatre artist in Karnataka. He was born in Mysore on 15th February 1934. After his father’s death, he took over the management of the K. Hirannaiah Mitra Mandali, founded by his father.
A Quick Look At Hirannaiah’s Life And Career
Master Hirannaiah has acted in more than 30 Kannada movies. However, he is primarily known for his work in Kannada theatre. The way he popularised the theatre in Karnataka is a lesson for many generations to come. Hirannaiah’s most of the plays were based on politics and social issues. His notable plays include Lanchavatara, Double Thaali, Kanya Daana, Sanyashi Samsara, Bhrastachara, and others.
When we say Hirannaiah, the first thing that comes to our mind is Lanchavatara. It got played for more than 11 thousand times, over a span of 45 years. This play has been performed in countries like United States, Australia, Singapore, and England.

Master Hirannaiah is a master-class artist who has played a primary role in popularising theatre in Karnataka. He has been honored with so many awards and some of them are:
Karnataka State Award, Rajoytsava Prasasthi, Gubbi Veeranna Award, Drama Academy Award, Maha Advaithi Award, Alva’s Nudi Siri Award, and more.
The demise of Master Hirannaiah is indeed a great loss to Karnataka’s theatre group.
