ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 witnessed history being made by England, as they clinched their first ever World Cup title at Lord’s. Cricket fans couldn’t have witnessed an epic game of cricket like that in a final between England and New Zealand. Both the team ended up in a tie as they complete 50 over each. It finally took a Super Over for England to be crowned winners of the 2019 World Cup which is named to be ‘cricket finally comes home’.
Epic World Cup Final Ended up with a super over
New Zealand skipper, winning the toss decided to bat first at Lord’s. However, they put up a score of 241 for the loss of 8 wickets, where Henry Nicholls (55 runs) and Tom Latham (47 runs) helped the Kiwis put up a fighting score on the board. In the reply, England was all out at 241 resulting in no winners.
Later, the game had to be decided by a super over where both teams had to bat 1 over each. Starting first, for England it was Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes who batted for the super over and managed to score 15 runs off it. New Zealand needed 16 runs to win in order to claim the title. The Blackcaps sent left-hander Jimmy Neesham and Martin Guptill who matched the score in the final ball but fell behind due to less number of boundaries hit in an over as of England. Martin Guptill was run out on the last ball which led to New Zealand’s defeat.
Karma hits back
Remembering the first semi final’s bizarre moment, New Zealand removed India out of World Cup tournament breaking billions of hearts. It was Martin Guptil’s throw that cost Dhoni a run out in a ‘do or die’ match. Dhoni was playing at 49 runs, he tried to convert a run into two with his partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but when he almost reached the danger end, Guptill’s direct throw was enough to end India’s world cup dream. Similarly, in the final Guptill got run out due to which the New Zealand team lost the match. Now, Indian fans are trolling Guptill on social media calling it an act of Karma hitting back.

Martin Guptill says his direct-hit run-out of the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni in the World Cup semifinal was more a case of luck doing its bit for him. But there was no luck in your favor in todays match #ENGvsNZ #CWC19Final #Guptill
