Later, the game had to be decided by a super over where both teams had to bat 1 over each. Starting first, for England it was Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes who batted for the super over and managed to score 15 runs off it. New Zealand needed 16 runs to win in order to claim the title. The Blackcaps sent left-hander Jimmy Neesham and Martin Guptill who matched the score in the final ball but fell behind due to less number of boundaries hit in an over as of England. Martin Guptill was run out on the last ball which led to New Zealand’s defeat.
