Lalit Modi’s Family Business

Lalit Modi is well known to everyone after he launched the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Now, IPL is one of the biggest sports franchises with each game worth Rs 117 crore. A couple of years later, in 2010, Modi was suspended by the BCCI for financial irregularities and various other charges of misconduct.

People know him because of his work in sports but not many know that he also comes from a leading business family. He is the son of KK Modi who owned Modi Enterprises that has businesses ventured into various sectors like Agro, Specialty & Performance Chemicals, Pan Masala, Mouth Fresheners, Tobacco, Confectionery, and Retail, Education, cosmetics, Entertainment, Fashion, Travel, and Restaurants.

According to a report, the current value of Modi Enterprises is over $1.5 billion (Rs 12,000 Crore). Moreover, Modi’s company also owns various popular brands like Modi Care, Indofil Industries Limited, Rockford Whiskey, Marlboro Cigarettes, Pan Vilas Pan Masala, Beacon Travel Company, 24 Seven Retail Stores, etc.

Other business 

This is not it, Lalit Modi also has a restaurant business, his Delhi-based company runs restaurants like Ego Thai, Ego Italian, and Ego 33 and trades with Arab countries, Africa and Europe.

The 58-year-old also founded Modi Entertainment Networks. He partnered with Walt Disney in 1993 to telecast Disney content in India. And he was also the pan-India distributor of ESPN.

After Modi was barred from BCCI in 2010, he came to London where he resides in a luxury mansion that is spread across 7000 square feet. Several media reports claim that his mansion, which is located on Sloane Street in London, is a massive five-story home that has an inbuilt elevator and 14 rooms.

Lalit Modi also owns some expensive four-wheelers including three Ferraris worth Rs 15 Crore. He had gifted his late wife Minal the now-discontinued Aston Martin Rapide as per Cardekho, the price of which went up to Rs. 4.4 crore. Later, his wife gifted him a Ferrari California, which is not produced anymore. When in production, the car cost around 3.30 crore. Last year, Modi gifted a Ferrari 812 GTS to his son Ruchir, the ex-showroom price in India as per Cardekho is 5.75 crore.

With numerous business ventures and a huge amount that he earned from his time in IPL, Lalit today has a net worth of $570 million (Rs 4,555 crore).
