On Thursday, the Supreme Court (SC) dismissed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) review petition against former union minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram’s bail in the INX media case. Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI on August 21 last year in connection with the case.
The request had been filed in October last year
On October 22nd, 2019, the Supreme Court had granted bail to P Chidambaram in CBI’s INX media case on the former minister. This was despite CBI’s contention that he was a flight risk. Later on, in the same month, the CBI had requested the top court to review its decision of granting the bail.
In December last year, the Supreme Court had granted bail to Mr. Chidambaram in a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate against him in the same INX media case.
Supreme Court dismisses CBI’s challenge today
On Thursday, the Supreme Court dismissed CBI’s challenged on the topic. Addressing on the matter, a bench of Justices P Banumathi, AS Bopanna, and Hrishikesh Roy said, “Application for oral hearing the review petition in open court is rejected. We have perused the Review Petition and the connected papers carefully and are convinced that the order, of which review has been sought, does not suffer from any error apparent warranting its reconsideration. The Review Petition is, accordingly, dismissed.“
