India’s Hit Man has marked his platform as one the best limited over batsman in the world. In the ongoing mega event, Rohit Sharma has till now scored four centuries and is the most run-getter with 544 runs. In his next match against Srilanka, India’s opener will be eyeing to break 3 major World Cup records in the tournament which none of the players have ever come close to it.
Rohit eyes on three crucial records
India has only one game left in the group stage against Sri Lanka. The men in blue are placed 2nd in the points table with 13 points. While India is already through to the semifinals and Sri Lanka are out of the contest, Rohit Sharma can break three major World Cup batting records in the game.
1st Record
The hitman is currently sharing his record with Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakara with the most number of centuries in the tournament, which is four. One more century in the Sri Lanka clash or India’s semi-final match would make him the only player in history to hit five centuries in a single World Cup. Rohit’s 104 against Bangladesh took him on equal terms with Sangakara who had 4 centuries in 2015 World Cup.
2nd Record
Making 544 runs, the hitman is the highest run-getter till now in the tournament. Rohit has the chance to go beyond the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar who has the record of holding 673 runs in 2003 world cup. For now, he is the only one who appears to give a tough challenge to that of the Master Blaster’s record.
3rd Record
There is one more Sachin Tendulkar record that Rohit Sharma could beat. Sachin had scored 586 runs in nine innings in 2003, Sharma is now at 544, and has one innings left against Sri Lanka. He is only 43 runs away to beat Tendulkar’s record.
Possible change for the next game
India, in its next game, will look to finish with a win and end their World Cup group stage campaign in a style. Rohit is one of the leading run-getters of the World Cup with four centuries under his belt. The men in blue would not want to rest him and break the consistency as he will have a big role to play in the final stages of the tournament.
Talking about changes, Mayank Agarwal may get an opportunity to play the game in the XI men squad. Kohli would look to test him at the top of the order and push KL Rahul at number four again in order to provide more teeth to the middle-order. Being said on his last world cup campaign, MS Dhoni could be rested, as the team already has Rishab Pant as a wicket-keeper in the team. But these are just the speculations and it is up to the team management to decide for their next Playing XI.
