Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had talked about India’s potential to become a ‘Toy Hub’. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, in line with PM Modi’s comments, announced a toy cluster that would come up in the state.
India – A Toy Hub?
In the monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, PM Modi said that India has the talent and ability to become a toy hub for the entire world and called upon startups to work towards realizing this potential while being “vocal about local toys”. He further mentioned that the global toy industry is over Rs seven lakh crore, but India’s share is very small, as he stressed on the need to work to increase it.
CM BSY follows it up with an announcement
CM BS Yediyurappa, soon after Modiji’s address, stated that a toy cluster would be coming up in the state. However, it would be located in Koppala and not in Channapatna, which is known as the ‘Town of Toys’.
BSY went on to say that with the eco-system to support the toy cluster already in place, this 400 acres SEZ will have top-class infra & would generate 40,000 jobs in 5 years. In line with this, the Karnataka Government had recently held a webinar cum panel discussion with a panel of leading toy manufacturers.
Reports are present which suggest that the state has already supported and nurtured the setting up of Tool Manufacturing & precision engineering (TMTP), polymers manufacturing clusters Bengaluru, Dharwad, Tumkuru and Mysuru, robust design capacity and testing certification agencies in Bengaluru, Dharwad and Koppal and GTTC (Government Tool Room & Training Centre).
In line with PM @narendramodi 's vision of #VocalForLocal & boosting toy manufacturing, Koppala will have India's first toy manufacturing cluster. With the eco-system to support toy cluster in place, this 400 acres SEZ will have top-class infra & generate 40,000 jobs in 5 years. pic.twitter.com/xFOJbo5Z4H
