There have been reports of people running out of quarantine facilities and people breaking social isolation for no reason that is, in turn, hindering India’s fight against the pandemic while the doctors on the front line continue to beg for more time. Along with the shortage of beds, there has been a huge demand for personal protective equipment for the doctors and the ever-rising demand for ventilators.

India is in its 4th week of the first wave of the novel coronavirus outbreak. While the World Health Organisation and other countries have lauded India’s effort to contain the virus so far, back home, there has been criticism of its lack of testing. As per March 27th, India had reportedly tested only over 26,000 samples out of which 1440 came out to be positive. Out of the total confirmed cases, there are 1252 active cases with 48 fatalities and 140 being recovered and discharged. India is currently under the 21-day lockdown period that is supposed to end on the 14th of April.
