With two new positive cases of COVID-19 reported in Nagawara and Jnanabharathinagar, the number of containment zones in Bengaluru Urban has increased.

After the local authorities were given power by the Central government to divide regions into containment zones rather than red, green, and orange zones, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike came up with a list of containment zones in the city. The categorization of areas has been quite different than other states.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has declared 6 containment zones in the city. The containment zones have not been sealed entirely. However, the wards under these containment zones have been sealed after a positive case has been detected. Under the 6 containment zones, there are 20 sealed wards currently.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner, BH Anil Kumar visited Nagawara along with other officials to take stock of the situation. After inspecting the area, the local authorities were given directions to fix the perimeter and to seal down the ward. While the source of infection of both the cases is yet to be determined, all the primary and secondary contacts of the positive cases have been shifted to the institutional quarantine facility.

The city currently has 121 active cases among 20 containment wards. The maximum number of cases has been attached to the Shivaji Nagara ward with 46 cases followed by Padarayanapura with 36 and Hongasandra and Mangammanapalya with 17 and 9 respectively.
